Thailand Approves New Airports to Function, Even More, Vacationers -While Maya Bay Closes Because of Over Tourism

At the same week that among the country's most Popular tourist destinations, Maya Bay, closed for four months because of over tourism, Airports of Thailand (AOT) board of directors approved the construction of two new airports - one in Chiang Mai and one in Phuket.

Both popular Chiang Mai, Phuket and Tourist destinations have an airport, but the additions are intended to accommodate demand. According to AOT president Nitinai Sirismatthakarn, every airport will cost with construction.

The second Chiang While Phuket's will be built in the Ban Khok Kruad district of Phang Nga May airport will be constructed in the Ban Thi district of Lamphun. Both are expected to be completed by 2025 at the latest - and serve an additional 10 million tourists.

Maya Bay is a victim of its success CREDIT:

Very much a victim Of its success, Maya Bay shot to fame following the launch of Danny Boyle's adaptation of Alex Garland's book The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio back in 2000. Located on Koh Phi Phi Leh, Maya Bay has seen a rapid increase of traffic within the last twenty years, with as many as 5,000 people coming daily on boat trips from the bustling mainland resorts of Krabi and Phuket during high season (November to February).

Consequently, Power, swimming and snorkeling boats have caused damage to the reefs. According to the study, 72 percent of the coral reef of Thailand is with a deterioration happening in the last ten decades. Water from hotels, the dumping of plastic waste and waste from boat anchors are the primary causes.

The poor condition Of Maya Bay and graphics showing people packed onto the sand in vast crowds have spurred local governments into action, with Maya Bay now closed until September 30 to permit the corals time to recuperate.

Dorothy Heng, Manager of East ravel, said the company has been warning people about the status on Maya Bay for a while. "We've taken good care to advise those who would like to incorporate the experience in their itinerary of the overcrowding and harm to the environment that this new celebrity has caused," she said. "We expect that final Maya Bay enables nature to recuperate."

Maya Bay: The fantasy v. the fact CREDIT:

In the wake of Environmentalists who argue that not only are popular Thai destinations such as Bay suffering, but the infrastructure isn't in place to accommodate another influx of traffic have criticized the acceptance of the airports, drastic action.

Thailand's Over tourism problem has been reported with vacations pedaled in markets.

According to the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, Permanent Secretary visits in the nation. Chinese people accounted for just under 46 percent of inbound tourists to the country in this time - a staggering 987,000 from over 2.1 million. In general, visitor numbers to Thailand increased by 8.8 percent in 2017 to 35.4 million, with Chinese tourists the largest single national group.

It appears that Tourists though have been set off by the reports, with the amount of UK visitors to the nation.

Just last week, Lee Cobaj, Telegraph Travel's specialist in Bangkok commented it was “great to see Thailand placing nature ahead of profits for once." However, the airports' announcement goes that environmentalists and locals have fought to attain.

Lee told today Telegraph Travel; “the temporary closure of Maya Bay to permit the marine environment to recover is, naturally, a step in the right direction, but it is little more than a sticking plaster in a region being crushed under the burden of tourism."

"It's Disappointing to find that the Thai government's response to uncontrolled over tourism is to update the airports at two of Thailand's busiest entrance points as opposed to focusing on the renewable less-damaging approach to its rapidly-increasing visitor numbers," she continued.

"Much of Private Pool Villa in Phuket has been concreted over, with buildings, and preparation or concern for the environment. Without a radical new strategy in the military junta, I'd anticipate that extended empty golden beaches of Phang Nga and Khao Lak will share the same fate."

The move also Contradicts the remarks of Jiraporn Prommaha in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, who advised TTG Asia lately; “we want to push CBT community-based tourism to disperse tourists away from popular websites beyond Bangkok, Chiang Mai or the shores to market the ‘hidden Thailand.'"

A lot of Phuket has been concreted over, And Old Town is as busy as the shores CREDIT:

It would Seem the gates will be opened to visitors, and rather than pushing against them in the direction of undiscovered places that are Thai; they're being herded to issue areas - suffering the consequences of over tourism and to destinations already struggling to cope.

Tane's wildly Opinion is that and thatphuk the traveler will evolve "mass tourism will become history in the future." Not a concrete business plan.
